Wedding Life! (aka get a planner, save your sanity)

Hi babes!

So... as many of you know Matt and I are in full-on wedding planning mode. We've got a date and a handful of vendors booked, but that shit gets overwhelming, y'all. 

I kind of knew that it would. So, Matt and I got ourselves an engagement present. We hired my creative genius of a friend, Emily, as our wedding planner! Emily owns Em + E Events, a full-scale event and wedding planning company in here Pittsburgh.

You guys.. this was the best gift we could have ever given ourselves. See, we had an idea of what we wanted our day to look like. But working out the details while also having a full time job (not to mention a budding side hustle), maintaining a social life, buying a house (this is a solid maybe), and attempting to get a few workouts in each week? No thanks.

I know what you're thinking. "Tons of brides have gorgeous DIY weddings and plan it all themselves!" or maybe "I don't need a planner. I'm super into weddings, and I don't want to relinquish any control over my day!"

If that's how you feel, cool. I may have felt that way at first too. But the more I thought about it, the more I knew that I wanted to enlist the help of a professional in the industry. I can be frugal, sure, but I saw the value in hiring a planner pretty early on. Also - that's the great thing about Em. She has a variety of packages so we worked with her to come up with a plan for her to help us achieve our perfect day.

So let me tell you a few of the reasons a wedding planner will be worth every penny.....

1.  Connections! She has so many connections! A lot of times your wedding planner has access to discounts through their network of vendors. Also, she knows what I want to spend on what, so she can recommend quality vendors within my price range.

2.  $aving that $$$. Speaking of saving that $$$, a wedding planner can help you get the most for your money. Emily developed a budget for us down to the cost of postage (the details, y'all) and is helping us stick to it. Since I've never planned a wedding before, I'm clueless on what things "should" cost. Matt and I had ideas of what we wanted but had no idea what was feasible for us budget-wise. Since Em knows what our must-haves are, she is able to stretch the budget better!

3.  All of the details, none of the stress. Okay, your planning might not be completely stress-free, but having a planner will ensure that no detail is left unnoticed - and YOU won't have to stress about making sure that they are all coming together perfectly. This is Emily's job. She knows every single piece that goes into a wedding, as well as all of the little random things that I mentioned I want. This is especially important to me because we have chosen a venue that is a totally blank slate - we'll be bringing all of our own vendors. Which leads me to my next point...

4. Planners coordinate your ENTIRE wedding, not just one aspect. A lot of venues come with a coordinator, and that person will be a great resource for you. With that said, an in-house coordinator will probably only be responsible for the things that your venue specifically is on the hook for (such as the space itself, or food if your venue caters). I want to enjoy the entire day, not worry if my DJ is set up in the right place or get a phone call from the florist asking where to bring the flowers. For this reason alone, I highly, highly recommend making room in your budget for a minimum of day-of coordination. I know that full-scale event planning is not in the budget for everyone, but at the very least save your sanity and hire a planner for your day-of coordination.

I could go on and on, but you get the point. A wedding planner is the an amazing investment. And if you are engaged and live in the Pittsburgh area, you need to call Emily now!
